Family Portrait

A two-sided sculpture depicting a typical family portrait on one side (front view) and the complexities of the lives within the photo on the other side (back view).

This sculpture examines the contrast of human similarities and differences. The shared desire of basic needs of belonging and motivations are threaded in humanity throughout time, yet each person has a unique footprint and legacy they leave behind.

A family portrait is a timestamp of human existence. Posing, preparing, and creating the portrait shared moment involves relatable actions. The parallels of similar family dynamics captured in a controlled moment are universal. Only those who have been part of that moment see the portrait as more than a static moment, they reflect on memories and understanding of the lives behind the monochromatic surface.
