Bio

As a multimedia artist, Deidre examines concepts of destruction and renewal through sculpting and painting. The combination of her B.F.A. in Fine Arts and B.S. in Electrical Engineering complement her artistic interests exercising her creative and critical thinking skills. Her designs integrate abstraction with realism in content and aesthetics.

She is  a cultural blend born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico which she cherishes as her original home where she regularly attended local art markets. Being surrounded by local artisans gave her a deep appreciation for textiles, vibrant colors, and nature which find their way into her own artwork. She embraced Colorado Springs several years ago where she and her husband met and raised their family. Deidre works in her art studio exploring connections between humanity and nature using found objects destined for landfills and repurposing items which assist her in maintaining a sustainable practice.

The creative spirit flowed from an early age alongside her mom extending the functionality of appreciated items and making new ones. Since things did not come easily to the family, embellishment and reparation were skills of necessity and helped exercise resourcefulness. Deidre’s pragmatic approach to life led her into the engineering profession which fostered her desire to problem solve and organize. As a life-long learner pursuing a fine arts degree allowed her to take her artistic interests to a new level of understanding.

Her practice is motivated by her experience as a human who cares deeply for humankind, as an engineer who seeks structure, and as an artist who uses creativity as expression and response to a chaotic world. She sculpts with synthetic materials such as plastics, electronics, rubber, tar rubble, and other non-organic products that will reside on Earth indefinitely. She explores connections between humanity and nature by using various mediums and techniques to provide a distinct space for her hands to investigate and discover nuances translated beyond the expression of words.

Deidre’s work is currently focused on a series she introduced in summer of 2022 called New Nature which examines the concept of nature’s adaptation to discarded human-made products that over time will intertwine and result as the planet's future landscape. The series contemplates the effect of human existence combined with nature's archival methods through acknowledgement and regard to the possibility of change.

Her work has been exhibited at UCCS Downtown in Colorado Springs, CO, AIR Studios in Santa Fe, NM, Art Santa Fe in Santa Fe, NM, R Gallery in Boulder, CO, High Beams and Philip J. Steele Gallery in Lakewood, CO, Night Lights Clock Tower Projection in Denver, CO. She received The Gallery Director Award for her sculpture, Family Portrait at the 59th Annual Student Exhibition at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in Lakewood, CO. Along with a regular standing on the President’s List for academic achievement she graduated summa cum laude at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in Lakewood, CO.
